AMST 1100 - Introduction to Environmental and Social Justice
Students will demonstrate the ability to understand and explain complicated scholarly work
Students will demonstrate the ability to explain key concepts and theories in environmental and social justice and will demonstrate a familiarity with histories of U.S. and transnational environmental and social justice movements.
Students will demonstrate an ability to apply key concepts and terms in environmental and social justice to analyses of contemporary controversies over the distribution of environmental risk
Students will be able to draw on key theories and concepts in environmental and social justice in order to examine the implications of environmental rhetorics regarding the “uses” and “abuses” of nature and the concept of the natural.
AMST 1140 - Introduction to Race, Class, Ethnicity
Students will develop comprehension of basic terms, concepts, and methods required in the study of race, class, and ethnicity
Students will learn an overview of the history of racial formations in the United States, showing how various groups have been assigned and assumed racial, ethnic, and class identities
Students will show measurable improvement in students' critical thinking skills
AMST 1150 - Introduction to Southwest Studies
Students will develop comprehension of the basic terms, concepts and methods of Southwest studies
Students will learn an overview of the history of the Southwest including an understanding of the major cultural groups and their role in shaping the Southwest
