Alana Bock is a Ph.D. student in the American Studies department at the University of New Mexico. Alana came to UNM having completed a B.A. with a double major in U.S. History and Art History/Theory/Criticism from the University of California, San Diego (2016).
Alana’s research interests include critical Filipinx studies, visual and performance studies, and critical gender studies. Influenced by her upbringing as a second-generation Filipina American, Alana’s research explores the unique and peculiar relationship of Filipinx Americans to U.S. empire. In particular, Alana is interested in looking at Filipinx visual and sonic production as a space for confronting the hauntings of imperialism, forging alliances with other marginalized folxs, and imagining alternative and better realities.
